about the painter

Revan Karaca is an emerging painter based in Leipzig, a city with a vibrant art scene in former eastern Germany.

Growing up as a first-generation Turkish-German born to Turkish immigrants, she experienced the well-known identity struggles and discrimination faced by Turkish-Germans, which helped her develop her critical eye for political and societal issues. She later studied computer science, psychology and philosophy and started creating work about social belonging and cultural identity.

Her exceptional painting talent was already evident from a very early age and over the years she has worked with a variety of media. Although she is prolific in techniques such as aquarelle, wood block printing and photography, her current medium of choice is oil painting.

Revan Karaca is a political artist who engages with the controversial issues of our time. In her work, she creates highly realistic paintings that emanate her passion for controversy while at the same time display her intellectual depth and ironic sense of humor. Through her art, she provokes dialogue on politics, sociocultural topics, and the silenced, uncomfortable responsibilities within our power systems.
