knight in her own right

The KNIGHT series, initiated by Revan Karaca in 2025, challenges the traditional narrative of women in history by portraying them as warriors — strong, powerful, and armored. The series reimagines the often-silenced female figure as a fighter, an agent of her own destiny, and a symbol of resistance against centuries of patriarchal oppression.

Throughout history, women have been suppressed, silenced, and marginalized. From the witch hunts of the early modern period to the systematic exclusion of women from the political, academic, and professional spheres, the historical narrative has often been written by men, about men, for men. Women’s contributions were minimized or erased, and their voices went unheard in the corridors of power.

With the rise of modern feminism, however, a new wave of women’s empowerment has emerged. Women are fighting back, asserting their right to be heard, to be seen, and to reclaim the spaces from which they’ve been excluded. The KNIGHT series visually amplifies this struggle by depicting women as armored warriors — a metaphorical reclaiming of their strength, dignity, and agency. They are no longer passive figures; they are active participants in their own liberation.

The series also explores the complexities of allyship in this ongoing battle. While many men now identify as feminists and seek to support the fight for women’s rights, the artwork suggests that true support lies not in taking the lead, but in stepping back and listening. Historically, men have dominated the discourse around women’s lives — from politics to literature to healthcare — often making decisions about women’s bodies and futures without truly understanding their struggles. In the context of feminism, the artwork asserts that men’s role should be one of support, not dominance. The KNIGHT series emphasizes that feminism is, at its core, a war against patriarchy — a war fought by women.
